Paperbird

A place to share those stories growing old somewhere on your computer.

Welcome to Paperbird, an online original literature sharing and reading platform.

What's the point?

Have you ever written something you're really proud of, but then you realized no one's ever going to see it? So it's just going to sit there gathering dust? Hmm...maybe you could share it online! That's a great idea. Let's see where you could put it! How about...AO3! Wait, that's kind of full of porn and fan-fiction. It has a lot of original works, but that's not what people really go to AO3 for. How about...Royalroad? Well, you could, but that's kind of full of litRPG and fantasy stories. How about...Scribble Hub? Webnovel? Kind of full of AI.

Perhaps this is just my personal opinion, and maybe I'm just really out of touch, but I wouldn't really want to put something of mine on any of those, as it just doesn't really seem to fit. That's why I made Paperbird. Now, this is absolutely a RELEVANT XKCD COMIC situation, I know. But still, I hope that Paperbird can fill in this niche, if you can even call it that.

I've also always been envious of the East Asian online web novel communities. It seems like there's a clear path for them. You make a webnovel, people actually read it, it gets adapted into an anime or manga. Now I'm certainly not saying Paperbird is going to change any of this for other places, but I just think that writing your stories, being able to share them, growing a community, meeting like-minded people, and reading interesting stories that might have been forever hidden in the depths of someone's mind, is really fun. At least for me. I want to read people's stories. And even if this is not any large success, it was still very fun to develop.

AI?

I don't like generative AI for creative outlets. I'll be upfront with it. I think it's stupid that people have chosen to utilize AI to do artistic tasks. So, on Paperbird, we hold a zero-tolerance policy for AI. If you are found to be using AI in any way, you will be permanently banned, no exceptions.

Free to use

As I believe it should be, sharing your stories, leaving reviews, and building a community on this platform is, and always will be (you can quote me on that), completely free.

Now, I can't really financially support anyone publishing their works on here, but you are encouraged to link your own personal support pages (such as Patreon, or Ko-fi, I don't know what people use nowadays) in your profiles. Give early access or special stories on your Patreon or something. Feel free to build your community here and take them elsewhere.

I am just an in-debt university student though :(, so I might need to open donations to keep this website running at some point if it becomes a big enough deal.
